3. What is Trauma-Informed Care?

Trauma-informed, client-centred care recognizes how past experiences—such as abuse, neglect, or loss—can influence how someone experiences care. It prioritizes:
-
Safety – both physical and emotional
-
Choice – allowing clients to make decisions about their care
-
Collaboration – working together with clients
-
Trustworthiness – providing clear, honest communication
-
Empowerment – supporting clients to feel in control of their care
As a Christian organization, Haven ensures that every interaction reflects these principles. Follow-ups, emotional support, and referrals are permission-based, ensuring clients feel heard, valued, and in control.
4. What Can I Expect When I Contact Haven?

When you contact Haven, we’ll begin by clarifying the scope of our care to ensure it meets your needs.
If you choose to proceed:
-
We’ll complete an intake and schedule an appointment with our nurse.
-
During your appointment, you may receive a pregnancy test and discuss your options in a respectful, non-judgmental space.
-
The nurse may offer to answer questions about your pregnancy using ultrasound. You can decide if this would be helpful.
You’re welcome to bring a support person to your appointment.
5. Is Haven a Christian Organization?

Yes. Haven is a Christian charity, incorporated under the British Columbia Societies Act and registered federally.
Our faith motivates us to provide respectful, compassionate, and non-judgmental care, while fully respecting the beliefs of all clients.
6. Why Should I Choose Haven?

Your safety and trust are our top priority.
Being a nurse-led clinic means that licensed nurses can take extra time with you to provide a holistic assessment and answer your questions. You’re in control of your appointment, and the nurse helps with information, resources, support, and referrals.
All health care professionals at Haven are regulated and accountable to their professional standards, ensuring that care remains safe, ethical, and transparent.
Non-clinical emotional support, including perinatal loss support, is offered through trained staff using a peer support model and is provided within clearly defined scopes of practice. If a client’s needs extend beyond Haven’s scope, we promptly refer or transfer them to the appropriate provider.
7. What Should I Do If I Have Further Questions About Haven or the Care I Received There?

Please reach out to us directly in whatever way is most comfortable for you — by email, phone, or otherwise.
Haven is committed to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in our client care. We welcome opportunities to engage in dialogue with clients and the Greater Victoria community about our work and mission.
